Stress is a significant factor for people living in independent communities in many instances. Various factors contribute to this. The community itself may not be vibrant, and may have a gloomy feel which dampens the mooods of people who stay there especially if they do so for long. Poor treatment, bad food and bad policies also lead to the same. Personal quirks, medical problems and the natural aging process can also affect one’s cognitive functions, leading them to become anxious and stressed. There are several methods of stress relief that can be used to mitigate this. It’s important for this to be done so that one does not end up developing full blown anxiety or depression after exposure to stress for a long time. Psychological stress can also negatively impact one’s organic health, such as by making hypertension and diabetes more difficult to treat.
Exercise
Exercise is a good way to relieve stress. When done properly, it induces formation of endorphins in the brain. This is a hormone which makes one upbeatand reduces the chances of stress and depression. It also make them healthier in general. Exercise is also vital to the management of chronic diseases prevalent in the geriatric age group including diabetes, hypertension and other conditions. To be safe, the exercise regime has to be supervised by a team member who is skilled at it. we provide the Dimensions Health & Fitness program where our team members will find out what one’s exercise needs are, and then come up with a training regime which will help them attain their goals without hurting them.
Get Quality Sleep
Sleep is important in all age groups. Ensure that you get high quality sleep by following a few basic principles including sleeping at the same time each night, making sure your bedding is always clean and switching off all lights prior to going to bed. If this is not possible, wear blinds. Avoid using your phone, laptop or any source of light when in bed. Making sure that your dinner is at least an hour before you sleep is also helpful. These factors will help you get restorative sleep which repairs the body and the brain so that you’ll gradually wake up feeling upbeat as the days go by.
Watch Your Diet
What you eat also influences how you feel. At our retirement community, we have team members who can walk you through the perfect diet for your needs so that you get enough nutrients to nourish your body and mind. Our Sensations Dining experience ensures that you get nutritious, homemade meals using only fresh ingredients to achieve this.
Having a lot of junk food or fatty foods slows down digestion, causes bloating and can have an impact on your overall mood. Once you start having a healthy diet, you will notice being chipper after just a few weeks.
Ideally, you should combine the above and more to get rid of stress faster and to stay stress free for longer. Once done, you will be assured that you will stay healthy throughout.
